Do you really want to subject these people to mental and physical torture on a daily basis for years on end? Do you really think they will come out of prison better for it?

Prisons should be TERRIFYING--suicides should be an everyday occurance. Prisoners should get a starvation diet (1000 calories per day, maximum), and if they don't work, they don't eat
Yeah, that is a situation that will promote strong mental health and prepare people to become productive members of society upon their release.

Rehabilitated and productive or simply so terrified of going back that they walk on eggshells for the rest of their lives...makes no difference here.

I like Bubba's formula as a starting point. How many innocents will die? How many die every day for your right to own firearms not to be taken away? Freedom has it's sacrifices and sometimes it is the innocent that pay the price of a system that isn't perfect in every way.
How about this, let's start at home. Boys need a Dad, and half of them don't have one at home. And Dad needs the right to mete out a good old fashioned trouncing if the situation would dictate. People learn respect for other people at home, as small children. And from watching other people behave decently toward other people.
If we are going to use the death penalty then the appeals should be swift and limited and the offender should be dealt with in finality within a year.
Also I believe in the labor camps. All this laying around the weight room is nonsense, if they want to work out hand them a shovel or a ten pound jack.

Any parent that hits a child, even once, for any reason, should be publicly tortured to death.

Jarlaxle. I used to think spanking was uncalled for, then I married a woman with a large family. Some kids ears are in the seat of their pants and they require the judicious application of the wooden spoon occasionally. Trouncing may have been a poor choice of words. Spanking should never do physical harm or leave marks, and it should never be done out of anger. But I will say this, I have seen teenage boys so disrespectful to their parents (mothers) that I wouldn't feel too guilty about backhanding them in the chops for it if they were mine, but I don't have to do that with my family because we have never allowed behavior to disintegrate to that level.
I realize that we have bumped heads on other issues and will never see eye to eye on a lot of things, but you seem all to eager to jump on anything I say with your extreme solutions. Publicly tortured to death? If you believe in that sort of thing that says something about your values and solutions to social dilemmas that needs no further comment.

I believe that those who are guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt for crimes such as rape, murder and terrorism should be made to give a little back to the community. The prefered method would be forcing them to be guinea pigs for medical experiments. That way they give something back to society before they die. What better way to take their life especially if they are helping save one in the process. The rest of the criminals need the chain gangs back. I worked in a prison for 6 years. There was a good number of inmates that came through the prison year after year for small time offenses. They actually would get arrested on purpose because they were more comfortable in the prison system. Air conditioning in summer, heat in winter, three squares a day, cable TV, excercise facility and most importantly free medical care. They become "institutionalized", so it becomes a normal way of life for them. The prison system is not a deterent and it does not rehabilitate. It is in alot of cases an enabler of a life of crime.

Yeah, bigd I knew guys that would try to get throwed in jail for the winter. The minimum security in Anchorage was like a vacation. Free run of a well stocked fridge, pool tables and weight room, cable TV ect.

Thats the problem they live too well in prison. I feel we should have the eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth policy if your convicted of murder on some other severe crime they should take you out behind the cour and put a deer slug in your head that is like a $0.50 death and its instant. They do stuff like that in europe and it seems to work. Also they cant take our guns read the SECOND AMENDMENT. Anyone who says that (or even thinking it) you shoud be pistol wipped then kicked in the nutz. They took their guns in austraila and now the only people that have them are CRIMINALS. The only way thell get my guns is to out of my cold dead hands. Also there shouldn't be welfare unless there is something severly wrong with you the government could put them to work alot of people on welfare use your tax dollars to buy drugs. Welfare also needs reformed I wish I was in charge of this country!!!

Did Austrailia take everybodys guns? All guns or just hand guns?
I think crime needs to be punished but that is the wrong end of a social ill to try to get a grip on it from. We need to stop producing criminals, as a society.

I think in Austrailia they took all of their guns it showed them cutting shot guns in half with chop saws in a NRA infomercial. I would run for president but I wont be able to vote till in the spring then I'll be 18 also I would have alot of the prisons tore down because well have a lot less inmates with me and Ill have off road parks built in their place. We should get George Bush to see it our way because he would do it since he is one crazy Texan.

HAHAnice one Waxy...but kids do need discipline, some kids need differant types. Some people use differant types of discipline. I know some kids you can whip em all the time and it will not work, but put them in a corner or ground them for a week and they will straighten out..or vise versa.

If kids are like this, what makes you think prisoners would be different?

Will never happen. Some people should not raise children...I freely admit I fall into that category. A child would be better off born dead, or raised by Charles Manson, than to have me for a father.

I'd blow my head off before trying to raise a child...at least then he/she would get something worthwhile (life insurance) from his/her father.
