I am trying to figure out what the yellow plastic cap is for.It came with the new hose I bought for the power steering pump. The auto parts people tell me it is a seal ( yeah right ) for the nut on the hose. Can anyone tell what it's for.I thought it could be a dust cap for the hose end but it doesn't fit over the hose nut.The hose is for a 95 F150 power steering pump.I'm scratching my head.
That hose must have the optional Power Steering pump switch. On my '95, 4wd, Eddie Bauer, mine didn't have that when I ordered a new hose.
I would "assume" the plastic cap was meant to be installed on the flared in to prevent damage to the flare while it was packaged and transported. We've all seen how "gently" packages are handled in transport.
May or may not apply but when I replaced the pressure line I had a cap similar to yours, mine was to cap off the return end in the reservoir to flush the P/S system. Or at least that's what the directions said and it did work.
