i believe it is 3A713. Ford OEM shows rubber hose to compression fitting.
Aftermarket, several just show a hose clamp.
If that's the case, i only need a new hose and two clamps?
will that work.
when facing the reservoir, it is the hose that is in the back, closer to the driver.
Filled with a bottle of Amsoil universal ATF.
Cranked the wheel and topped off. So far so good.
I took the hose off, whacked it with a hammer to get off the remaining portion of the rusted compression fitting and put the clamp on.
Yes they should be replaced with the nice adjustable clamps. It's pretty normal for those spring clamps to fail over time. It's just easier to buy some of the adjustable metal clamps from home depot and save the trouble. Power steering is rated at 100psi idle and 300psi burst (at the reservoir). They sell some pretty nice ones on Amazon. Just search power steering clamps. Good Luck
Thanks. The lower one wasn’t a clamp.
It was a compression fitting.
So I shouldn’t need to replace the rubber and metal so it has the compression fitting?
I figured if it can have the clamp on the hose at the reservoir there is no reason it can’t have it on the lower portion where it meets the metal.
I would personally replace the spring compression fitting will heavy duty hose clamps. I have read that the factory compression spring fittings, lose their spring over time and the fluid starts to leak. If you have the new spring fittings those should do. I would just change any that are old or you could lose pressure or get air in the system.
I used Amsoil universal ATF since I had it laying around and bled the system turning steering wheel side to side. May have made a noise for 1-2 seconds.
Just drove to the store and noticed the steering isn’t difficult but much more solid than it was. No sounds or squealing.
Or should I attribute this to the temp being -10 this morning and 0 degrees F now???
