steering column

I put power steering in my truck, basically because I am too old and lazy to fight with manual steering. I was able to use my stock 3 on the tree steering column without much modification. That being said...does anyone know of anyone that make a 3 speed column shift steering column? I see a lot for floor shift, but no column shift.

I’m not sure but check with Flaming River. They have a lot of different columns that fit out trucks.

John, That is a 3 speed style, but in the specs it says it is for a Auto transmission.

Flaming River is the same the column shifts are for Automatics I can't believer that soimeone out there doesn't make an aftermarket Manual steering column.

I didn't read the specs on it, sorry about that. It looked like the real McCoy

It might be worth a call to Flaming River. When I picked up my column at their place near Cleveland they had things there that were not in the catalog. They were pretty knowledgeable when I placed my order.

Just curious, if you got yours to work why are you looking for a new one..?

I'm guessing he got the steering part of the column to work, but not the shifter part. I just put a CPP400 box in mine, I used a shortened GM column, and I barely had enough room for the column shifted auto. If you could find a way to cap the end of the shift rod to hold the shift arms on, and make the support for the shift rod up higher on the column inside the cab it might work. It would take some engineering though. I've never seen an aftermarket 3-on-the-tree column.

I'm not aware of any 3 speed manual aftermarket column, either. Traditionally, all the cool kids ditched the column shift for a floor shifter first chance they got, or swapped the 3 speed for a 4 speed transmission. Three on the tree has never been in demand since the 30's-40's. Keep us posted if you find anything different in your research.

No everything works the column sits up about an inch higher than standard. I kept the original steering gearbox and shaft. I can always modify the column I have to shorten it, but would like to keep the original column as is in case I ever wanted to convert it back. I know 3 on the tree isn't the most popular,...but I always liked it,.

I would have thought the 3 speed on the column would have been the most common. Both my panel and pickup had them and the 53 I scraped..

I will probably end up buying an old one from somebody that coverted theirs over and shorten it. But it would be nice for once to be able to install something without having to modify it!
