For the longest I have been using Stanadyne as they make IPs, figure they know what they are doing! But I saw Hot Shot Secret has their product in an easy to dispense bottle, that is a plus to me. The Stanadyne is a bit of a nuisance to dispense. I prefer to use Biodiesel when I can...besides the better smell, it has higher cetane and more lubricity than anything from the pump. I usually lose about 1mpg on B100, it does like to gel, so be careful!
Interesting thread or will this turn into another oil debate?
Eric, our trucks don't need an additive, especially if you get B5-B20 any where. That being said, our injectors don't get lubricated by the fuel. The oil does it's job on that one. The only you MIGHT help would be your electric fuel pump, but ULSD has enough additives in it to do the job. The money you spend on additives will more than pay for a new pump, IF you ever need one due to low lubricity. In short, just fill up and go.
Anyway, I could write a book on this, so yes, it is just another oil/fuel additive debate ....put down the additive bottle and slowly walk away
pour your used engine oil in the tank and enjoy the free fuel
I have not used an additive in diesel fuel yet, don't run it much in winter to worry about gelling.
2 forums I am on, the majority say don't add in anything except maybe some engine oil or 2 stroke oil for lubricity in older mechanical injection systems.
I have some old Diesel Kleen I thought about running through the Powerstroke just to make room on the shelf.
If you read about additives in the MSDS, SDS, PSDS sheet, whatever they call them now, most of the additives are crap.
There's something the scammers put in diesels to sell them. Diesel on steroids, don't know what it is.
I'd be scared to put WMO, WVO, etc in the Powersroke. Injectors are too expendable, cash isn't. What many of you guys do to your trucks, you're braver than I am.
when your injector orings get shot, what happens? The oil mixes into the fuel and it keeps running until HPOP is too low
The engine oil is ok for the HPOP to supply the injectors but not good enough to use as fuel additive?
Yeah, and then you FIX your injector O-Rings because it ain't suppose to run that way man. Knotty, c'mon dude, think a little bit .Look at your own question and you should have your answer. Telling people it's ok to use WMO as frikkin' fuel is just plain bad advice....but hey, it's your truck. Enjoy it. Just quit advising others to do the same when it's questionable at best.
