engine fuel/oil additives

I was told by a friend of mine that I should substitute 3 quarts of oil with Lucas Oil Treatment every oil change and to add a pint of Sea Foam to the fuel filter canister (after draining it), crank the truck and run it for a minute or two and then let it sit for about 15 minutes and then run it to help keep the injectors clean and control carbon. Is this necessary and will it help? Also, should I be adding anything to my fuel when I fill up to help with the lower sulfur content in the new fuel?

No no no no no no no no. no.

Dont add ANYTHING to the oil. ESPECIALLY lucas products. Lucas products can cause the oil to foam... Modern engine oils contain very strong additive packages. The best thing you can do is research a good oil and run that. I can give you a lot of direction on that if you would like.

As for fuel, it doesnt hurt anything and some say it helps, but dont open the fuel filter bowl every tank or you will eventually get a leak. Just pour the correct amount of your favorite additive in there with every tank. But I still wouldnt use Lucas products in fuel either.

okay, so no additives to the oil, cool. As for oil, Delo or Rotella, or is there a better alternative. What about fuel additive? I live in Mississippi, so extreme cold really isn't an issue. Is pump fuel sufficient or should I add something every tank full and if so what would you recommend?

Thanks,
Chris

Delo and Rotella T6 are both great. I run Amsoil which is also good. Pump diesel is NOT consistsnt. Unlike gasoline which must meet octane levels, diesel doesn't. Varying factors can be, water, cetane, contaminants, bio %, type of bio diesel and additives based on weather. This can all vary from station to station week to week.

DieselKleen (grey jug) is good for every day use (per fill up). Other people use 2 stroke oil. Bio diesel itself its probably the best lubricant, but often more expensive at the pump than #2 diesel

I agree, just say NO to both Seafoam and the Lucas. Run a quality fuel additive if you wish.
