What are the current low and high pressure readings?

You out to know that A/C is used in many positions of the air direction switch, not just in A/C inside or outside air positions.
It works for defogging the windshield and makes life a bit easier while driving when those conditions exist.

With the motor OFF and AC OFF, you should have 80-100 psi reading on the HI and LO gauges.. If you do, you have about enough R134 inside.. When the compressor starts, the HI goes up around 200 and the LOW drops to 30-40 ( depends on temp)... You should check the OFF pressure to confirm where you are starting from.
