Well, as cold weather approaches, it's time to do something about my air conditioner. Yhea, I know that sounds stupid, but on A/C equipped trucks, the defroster cycles the compressor to dehumidify the glass and prevent fogging.
The A/C has been uncharged for years, and I don't plan to update it so I can get it refilled.
Is there a harness or something I can disconnect from the compressor that will keep the clutch from engaging? Since the system is empty, it can't build pressure, so every 20 seconds or so the clutch will thump in to try and get things going. When that happens, the idle drops and it's just plain annoying.
If there is some system pressure it may try to cycle till it senses the abnormally low pressure... You should have an accumulator mounted on your passenger side low pressure line. It is back towards the fire wall... Round and about 6-8 inches tall IIRC. On the side is your low pressure cycling switch that turns the clutch on and off... Unplug that, and you should be good. I know bronco graveyard also offers an A/C eliminator bracket to allow you to use the same serp belt that you are now.
youve got some pressure in there or it wouldnt be cycling at all, there is a pressure switch on the accumulator , just un plug it and it wil stop as it thinks there is no pressure
Sounds like the accumulator plug is the way to go. I'll give it a look soon. Sorry for the delay in getting back, but I was out all weekend and didn't have a chance to follow up.
