Question A/C Problems

97 4.2l F150. Here's the problem. AC wasn't working (clutch not engaging) figured it was low on freon. I hooked a can up and as soon as I hooked it up the clutch started engaging. Only engages for about a second then wait about 4 sec then engages again, and keeps doing that. A/C never got cold. only took about 1/2 the can of Freon. If I pull the high pressure switch and jump it, it does the same as before, the 1sec on 4sec off. When I pull the low pressure switch and jump that, the clutch stay continuously engaged, never disengages, and A/C blows nice and cold. What am I dealing with here? Bad low pressure switch? something else? I am stumped?

i would put a set of gauges on and verify, but it sounds like it is cutting out because it does not have enough pressure to keep the low pressure switch engaged. it is possible the switch is bad, but i would guess needs more freon (gas).
