It wouldn't hurt to hook the lines together and go for a test drive then. The Duramax version of the ZF6 doesn't even have a cooler they just spec synthetic fluid.
After having owned, worked on 1000s of diesel vehicles in my shops, all I can say is Clessie Lyle Cummins' engines are simply mucho better than Ford Powerstrokes.
It's not even close on the reliability front. The 6.7L Powerstroke (we laugh every time we get one in for work) gets the prize for being a rats nest of wiring, plumbing, etc --- what were these engineers thinking??
swweet i think ll just a decent aftermarket cooler for the box itself. i gather with the cooler installed the gearbox will hold more oil than usual yeah?
F350 1990 yep and thats why id rather do the cummins swap rather go any ford engine again ie7.3 or another mwm engine.. reliable and more reliable power also...
4.10's will go good with those 35's, but much taller and you'll want to look at 4.30's or 4.56's, I'm running 3.73's with 32" tires and for my use it's a great combination.
Engine arrives today. Along with the 3-4k gsk,60 pound valve springs,#10 fuel plate. so just got to wait on conversion adapters and the south bend clutch. zf6 speed be here mid october. Ill start pulling the old 4.2 turbo diesel on the weekend and get the engine free of batteries and any other junk i dont need under there
So engine arrived and is all sweet from what i can see. Can anyone tell me what to look for on the pump to see if the anti tamper tabs are out of the pump. i cant see what im looking at?
Few photos of the build progress thats finally getting some progress. Starts and runs but just waiting on my high mount custom ac mount to made thatll look just like the one in the engine.
Dump pipe and exhaust just needs tiging up. Im Sending off the rear tailshaft this week. Going with external reg on the dodge alt and i will use the crank sensor and a decoda box for the tach to be calibrated.
Got 24v top hoseand oil filler valve cover comimg and will be making the botton hose out of 2inch stainless bends and some silicon joiners. Here is a few more pics as well. Few pics of the custom ac brackets. This is the test 1 and now its all measured up correct now as it sat 1 rib to far forward the proper one will be lazer cut and the idlers will be installed.
back into after these ****ty run of 4 12hr night shifts up the big house. what it does leave is for plenty of reading and researching future mods and continue to get ideas for the current conversion
