fummins conversion
I live in Australia where these trucks are far from common compared to the states.
I've had my 2003 f250 extra cab for about 1.5 years and love it. Plenty of room for the kids and with the massive tray great for loading big loads of firewood etc.
g56 idea is out the window going with powerstroke 7.3 zf 6speed instead
The problem is the ute has a mwm sprint 4.2l diesel turbo aftercooled and it looks like after chasing the intermittent over heating problem the head gasket and most likely head is buggered. Now if a full build is in on the cards i've been roughly quoted 10+ thousand and then im still left with the little I6.
Most might not agree with the 6bt 12v p pump swap but im going to do it anyway as i dont want the 7.3l powerstroke problems as well and the 6bt is awesome and easy to get the 300hp at the treads im chasing. i also wasnt to use the g56 6 speed from a later cummins as i dont want auto. Now ive done some reseasch amd from what i have read mounting a late model (07 on) dodge ram g56 6 speed to an early model 12v 6bt you need to run a nv5600 single plate flywheel with 1-3/8 centre hole. I want too use the transfercase from my ZF5speed which i think is the np273,all i need to is a dodge input shaft..
So has anyone done the swap either with my engine or petrol or powerstroke engine and has the ins and outs of what has to happen? Any info will be great as i will be doing myself with a mate who is very skilled in making stuff.. So far i think this is what ill need plus more when i find out..1 x Fan Shroud1 x Lower Hose Kit1 x Motor Mounts kit
any how looks like a good forum and look forward to hearing everyone'comments and experiences
regards Kane
There's been a good number of Cummins swaps into Ford Super Duties but I don't see a lot of them on this forum
I spend some time on the Cummins Diesel Forum and they have a conversion section that's had several such swaps.
I have a 04 F-450 4x4 with Cummins 12v and ZF6 manual, I modified Destroked's mounts to lower the engine and use a stock fan shroud.
My truck already had the ZF6 so the adapter was my best option.
I like the 12v because it's all mechanical, no computer or fancy electronics to give problems.
If your ok with computers and wiring you can get more power from the newer engines easier but for my truck that was built for towing I'm satisfied with the 325 to 400 hp it'll make and I don't need a scanner to tell me what's wrong.
Normally I'll keep it tuned to around 325-350 hp, 700+ lb ft of torque.
apparently the g56 bolts up to 12v i just need nv5600 clutch and the g56 flywheel. To use my np273 trans case i need a input shaft 29 spline from dodge. Just gotta workout what one there is wide bearing and narrow bearing shaft pending when my box was made
When converting from a Power Stroke V8 the the longer 5.9 6 cylinder Cummins we have to move the transmission back 2 1/2 - 3 inches.
This requires reworking the drive shafts making the back shaft shorter and having a new longer front shaft made for 4x4 trucks.
You can use ether flywheel from a 6 spd Dodge as long as it's for a 13" clutch, I'm using a 2001 Dodge flywheel for a nv5600 with a 13" Ford 7.3 clutch for a ZF6 trans.
The clutch materials are upgraded to handle the added power and torque my engine makes, it's pretty easy to make 800-1000N-m torque with one of these engines.

dont gwt me wrong if the zf6 speed is easier option and a better box ill 100% go down that path for sure. I want max 400hp most likely 350hp will be fine and yep 800-1000nm be very nice.
i found an engine in Australia 95 model 2v p pump with 240,000kms for $8000 aud. Its rather expensive compared to what you guys pay but its a four month or bit less wait to import one from the states and i cant even go and look at them.
Do you guys reccomend whilst engine is out to change out sump gasket, front crank seal, rearmain seal and put a better exhaust manifold on the 12v?
few pics thats the current engine with td0518g went really well. Un tuned prob mate 550nm and was good for 750 od nm and 250hp once tuned and electric lift pump installed

There's also a photo of my truck there, I have several photo's of the conversion.

You list looks ok but I'd rather lower the engine and use a stock shroud.
There's a number of improvements I'd recommend before installing the engine, I'll make a list and post it later, have work to do.
How about a full photo of your engine compartment, I had forgot about you right side drive which puts your heat and ac box over to the left side
