I have an old SXT tuner for my f150. it says it works for the 04 6.0. I put it on and been using it for a while now. It really smokes off the line but when boost hits it really hits hard. Great power. But off the line, it is a dog. Today I went to back up a hill that is a driveway. it was hardly moving but blew tons of black smoke. otherwise, change in power. So is this an old can tune not really designed for all-around performance? I know I can get a better tune. I do have a new Edge reader/ gauge system. I think I can get a tune on them? I'm looking for the power but not blowing coal off the start or when it is bogged down.

Sounds like the tunes may not be adjusted to the truck. You need to post more info for the 6.0 you're using it on. You may want to get custom tunes based on the mods you have.
Sounds like you need to do the VGT relearn procedure. Since you tuned the truck, you erased the KAM or Keep Alive Memory. The truck now has to relearn shift points, fueling, and the VGT has to relearn so it boosts more accurately and keeps the black smoke to a minimum.

I think you hit that nail right on the head. I know that if I remove the
tune and then reapply it I have to let the trans relearn some things.
