Yes I am looking at putting a programmer on my 07 6.0 I have nothing done to it yet its bone stock with only 700 miles on it, my friend has the programmer and it came off of his 04 6.0 is this a bad idea , im not looking for a huge amount of extra power just want about 50-100 more hp and some extra torgue, I never modded any of my trucks but hes giving me a good deal, all advice would be great, Thanks
I am running an 05' with Superchips flashpaq set on economy tune. I also was looking for moderate power but nothing crazy. When the programmer asked if I wanted to raise my stock speed and rev limiter I said no so the resulting tune was about 80hp above stock with stock limits. That is the best way to ensure you won't over rev and over boost the truck. I have run superchips 38,000 miles now and have had 0 issues with this configuation. Now alot of guys in here love the SCT with custom tunes from LIPD. I can say that LIPD looks like a bad a** group of guys and I plan on getting a full power package from them in the future when I pay this baby off. Be that as it may If you want some canned tuning that lets you feel good in the seat of your pants and treats the ol' stroker like a baby I say superchips is a good idea. Only the flashpaq though, because the micro-tuner 1704-A is too canned and has no options for tire size and limits. Therfore it is much harder on the truck. You will be getting so much feedback from this its not funny so good luck!!!! Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
I run the performance setting on my '06. Not real crazy about the transmission shifts but the power feels good. I waited till my truck had 1500 miles on it before the install. Also I recommend at least installing a egt gauge to monitor exhaust temps. Again if you are going to use Superchips get the 1805 flashpaq and update it often.
FYI--the 04 programmer won't work with your 07 because of different PCM codes. If you want a good programmer to START with then get an SCT. It's the best deal you can get--PERIOD.
1704 will not work on a 07 i had a 04 and now have a 07 and i am soon to get a SCT xcal2. Everyone on here raves about LIPD. I also belong to competition diesel and they all talk big about DJ's looney tunes. But once you get the sct you can use anyones tunes!!!! I understand you can get tunes e-mailed to you for a small fee, if i am wrong i am sure someone will correct me.
Good Luck.
Ohhh. My 04 ran better on the microtuner than my 07 did on the flashpaq!!!
I would highly recommend a SCT XCal2 with custom tunes from LIPD. Give Matt a call and talk with him, 1-888-229-0502. The cost is only $450 and he will provide you with unlimited tunes. He can just e-mail you them. With a stock truck, he can get you to 440 HP and around 850 ft/lbs. I called him yesterday and he is a great guy to talk to. Very intelligent and I could tell he knew what he was talking about. The nice thing about the SCT XCal2 is that Matt can drop the power off when the torqshift is shifting gear which will cause no illadverse effects to the tranny. This is a very good investment even if you are using it for fuel economy.
