Hi so i recently had my lower radiator hose blow a hole in itself so I replaced it the old spring was really rusty and broke in one spot so I didn't attempt to put it in and reaserch said I didn't need it with the replacement hose but after putting it on and filling up coolant letting it run for awhile I took it around the block and it started getting really High in temp like it wasn't getting coolant I felt the line and it was super squishy didn't feel anything in it I let it cool down came out about 3 hours later she cooled down all the way collant level went down a little line still was squshy took her for a longer ride and she got really hot had to stop and let her cool off. I got home and the lines were hard and hot but coolant was the same what's wrong?
I didn't fully drain the coolant I was kinda in a hurry and just popped the old line off slid the new one on and tightened the clamps filled to the full on the coolant resevior didn't till through the cap only put in about half a 5, quart if 50/50 in.
Only use the reservoir for maintaining the level. Take off your cap, fill the radiator completely full, start the truck, the level will go down. Top off the radiator, replace cap, then use the reservoir.
I filled through the cap about 75% full it was the rest I had started it let it run for about 10 mins and left in inclined on my driveway with the cap open didn't look like it sucked the coolant down tho.
Need to fill radiator and reservoir all the way up and drive it. Unless it gets stupid hot, keep driving. With the reservoir full (and by full, i mean at the hot mark), a few cool down cycles will suck the coolant in and eventually work air out.
