So some of you will remember that I just had my HPOP replaced and a whole bunch of other stuff fixed on my truck. Seems like I smelled coolant the first few days back from the shop. I found the radiator drain leaking a little and tightened it up and it seems fine. I've been checking the coolant level about every day. Yesterday, while the motor was warm, it was about 1/8" below the line. I scurried around to find some ELC 50/50 in case I needed it. Today I checked it and it was back above the line when the motor was warm after a short run. Question is can this be normal or is there reason for concern. I didn't have any coolant loss issue before the repair and I always checked it at least once a week. Am I just too worried it will have something else wrong with it? Thanks.
Mine varies quite a bit. 1/8" below the line is really too full IMHO. Mine typically runs 1/2 to 3/4" below the line. How level the truck sits will affect the coolant level quite a bit, too.
I always park in exactly the same spot when I check it so that shouldn't vary. It is filled to the minimum line so that is what I use for reference. Are you saying that you run it below the minimum line?

Yes. Have for years. As long as there's coolant in the bottle cold it's fine. Since you just had your truck repaired, I'd run it for a while to make sure allllllll the air gets worked out of the system. I normally bleed any pressure off the system while the truck is hot by very slowly opening the cap and then tightening it back immediately.
As Tim stated, when I had my 05, it could vary one day to another by 1/2 to 3/4 inch. The 6.0 is vary quirky that way. Esp. if I just had to move it a short distance. All of a sudden it would appear low. The next day after running it the missing fluid would reappear. Just normal operating procedures for the 6.0.
And isn't it just crazy how obsessed we are with these things??! I haven't run my truck in a few weeks and just putting the charger back on... where do I look??? Yes, at the degas tank
Eventually I will just trust the truck, but maybe not if I stay reading the 6.0 threads on FTE
