Went to change my fuel filters yesterday and could not find my big wrench for the bottom filter. So I removed the top filter and it started raining. I lowered the hood and went in for the night. Replaced it today but didn't have time to do the bottom one, figured I'd do it Saturday. I cycled the key on (3 times) to purge the air then tried to crank. No start after several tries so I pulled the filter off. With it off, I cycled the key and watched the bowl fill then turned the key off. Installed the filter, cycled the key on 3 times again and it started right up. After a few minutes of idling, it went dead and wouldn't start again. Removed the filter again and went thru the previous process again. Same result...ran for a few minutes and went dead. I removed the filter again, but this time I watched the fuel bowl with the key on. Bubbles...lots of bubbles! So I guess I have air in the line. How do I get all of the air out?
I've changed my fuel filters 3 times and never had a problem. The system should not need bled at all. It's getting air somewhere. Did you touch the bottom filter at all?
I did remove the drain plug and let it drain for a minute. I’ll remove it and put a new Oring on it and see if that helps. One thing to note: the top fuel filter cap was loose overnight (because it started raining) so I wonder if all of the fuel drained out leaving the line completely full of air.
I got a new drain plug on the way home and installed it. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Not only was the o-ring shot, but there was a lot of corrosion on the drain plug too. I am ordering the updated drain plug ASAP. Thanks to all for the help. I love FTE!
