99 Ford Ranger Crankcase pressure problems

My son has a 99 ranger and it has a very loud noise coming from the engine. This noise quiets down if you take the oil fill cap off. We installed a new PCV valve and it help a little, Does anyone have a clue what this could be.
Thanks in Advance
Don

Maybe put up an Audio/Video recording of the sound & where in the engine it seems to be the loudest, would net some opinions.

Sounds like a plan. Next time my son is over I will take a video and post it. I think it might be the smog pump making the noise but don't understand the excessive vacuum in the crank case.
Thanks

Not sure what "excessive crankcase vacuum" means. If it wasn't present Before the PCV valve was replaced, maybe you somehow got it installed Backwards????

Most crank cases don't have a vacuum or at least much of one. This has a vacuum that seems like something coming from an intake. You know! as a piston goes up others are coming down so there shouldn't be much vacuum or pressure. When my son come over again I will make a video and post it. Yes it was worse before the PCV valve was replaced.
Thanks
Don

Here is a video I made, Listen to the engine noise reduce as you pull out the dip stick or remove the oil fill cap. You can hear the suction as the cap is removed.
Thanks

Your PCV system sucks metered amounts of blow by from your crank case. The other part of the PCV system is a hose to feed filtered air to the crank case to replace the blow by that is sucked out. My guess is that someone attached the filtered air feed hose to the engine vacuum system. Most engines have a diagram indicating proper engine vacuum hose routing, which should help you figure out how your vacuum hoses should be hooked up.

Sounds like a good chance that might of happened. We changed the one in the front of the engine but didn't see another one but your correct there should be another. My son bought this truck off of Let It Go for $600 and the front PCV was missing then. Any Idea where the other one would be?
Thanks for all the help, I work on more of the older engines before all the smog devices.

There will only be one PCV valve, but there should be a filtered air source to the crank case. If we knew which engine you have, someone would likely be able to tell you where the filtered air part of the PCV system is, and how it should be hooked up.

I am having the same issue with mine. The heads were replaced about 1500 miles ago and the sound started around 500 miles ago. I've replaced the PCV valve twice, removed the throttle body to clean it and the opening that the hose to the PCV connects to. I currently have a piece of foam stuck in place of the oil filler cap- I know, but although very smoky out the tailpipe and a temporary "fix", it's drivable. I am very curious to hear what you found with your son's truck.
