Curious if anyone here might be able to help diagnose this noise. Video is shot from the inside of my '99 E350 with the 6.8 V10, looking at the back of the engine.
I would describe the noise as a slight rattle or buzz, almost like something floppy sticking into the path of a turning fan or something vibrating inside an air intake. It seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine.
The most noticeable thing is that when the engine is turned off, the noise continues for a few more seconds as you can see.
I don't know much about thew 99's as mine are older but do you think it could be a vacuum line or diaphragm in a part operated by vacuum?
You might be able to use a tube of some kind, maybe like from a aluminum foil box or piece of PVC, hold it up to your ear and try to pinpoint where the sound is coming from a little closer. once you narrow down the area a bit more, you can use a stick, wooden dowel, or something else to put against your ear and the actual part making the noise and hear it. some people use a long screwdriver or stethoscope. Cheep stethoscope are available at HF
Hmm... the van is from AZ and has had trouble with vacuum lines in the past (HVAC stuck in defrost), and it currently exhibits the HVAC going to defrost when applying heavy throttle going uphill. I will check those out more thoroughly!
