Hi guys, just bought a 99 150 scab 4.2L with 41k miles. There is what seems to be valve chatter coming form the front of the engine. I was reading in a previous post of that noise coming from the oil pump. The noise is only apparent at idle. Then goes away as I step on the gas.
I was wondering if it was the oil pump, or the valves.
Hello Dr.,
I dount what you are hearing is valve train noise. I here what I expect is the same 'ticking" sound you are hearing. Most noticeable at drive thrus where there is a brick wall just to the left to bounce the noice back into my open window.
Like you, whenever I accelerate, I no longer hear the noise.
It must not be anything wrong because it has been doing it for 4 1/2 years and 132,500 miles now!
the problem is the oil pressure relief valve in the oil filter assembly....it snaps shut with a loud tick that you only hear at idle....it will not cause you any harm other than the noise....this was from Ford
