RS9000XL Owners - How did you get the shock boots over the upper rear shock flange?

Title says it all. I have new RS9000XL shocks on my stock ride height 2003 7.3. The Rancho RS999266's I got for the rear came with nice beefy upper mounting "H" bar flanges on them BUT when I tried to put the shock boot over the 1st one, the shock boot ripped (it doesn't fit over the upper H flange). I ordered new boots but how the heck did you guys get the shock boots on? Did you slide that flange off and put it back on after you put the shock boots on?

Remove the H bar from the shock eye, some soapy water or WD40 helps as does a soft face deadblow hammer.

again soapy water or WD40 the hole in the boot and force it over the shock eye.

Yeah, gotcha. I'll WD it and slowly force it out with a vice I think . Thanks for the advice!

Update - here is what I did. I sprayed WD 40 on each "H" bar and then put the end in a vice at a slight angle, so the vice drove the H bar to one side of the upper shock mount. Once the H bar was on one side, I was able to slide the boot on at an angle (angled to the side that had the H bar most protruding). I then put the H bar back to the middle position with the vice. JOB DONE!
