Question Shock mounts(quad)???

I have a 79 Bronco with quad shocks and I was just wondering which shock was the standard one(I think it's the one behind the coil spring).
I was wondering if anyone has taken off one of the shock mounts and only used one shock.

How much difference would there actually be with only one shock instead of 2 at each front corner?

Now i wondered that myself some time ago. I have an 82' w/ the TTB front end and Ive been told that the one behind the shock is your main shock and the front is auxilary. Not need for the front one unless hard offroading is being done. I thought about switching to quad, but have since been talked out of it.

I want to switch out of quad shocks, because I don't need the 2 extra shocks up front and shocks are expensive enough as it is for 4.
So the rear is the main shock, has anyone taken the other shock mount off, or would it be best to just leave it there with no shock?

Why take it off? It's already there and not affecting your performance so why not just leave it on? Just my two cents.

Because I'm changing shocks and don't want to have 4 up front, so I was wondering should I just leave it on(with no shock) or take it off and latter when I grow a money tree I can pluck off a $100 and get me 2 more.

I actually had one tear out of the mount on my quad shock F-150. I'm currently running two shocks on the left front, and one shock on the right front. No problems. The rear shock is the shock installed on single shock frontend trucks, although I'm sure you could run either the front or the rear.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll run one shock at each corner(behind coils).

To add just another $0.02 to this thread, I actually ended up removing the two auxillary (in front of the spring) shocks after I lifted my 92 because the ride just got ridiculously stiff with such better springs and shocks. The two additionals were actually reducing the response of the front suspension. Thankfully, the 93 only has two up front.

Sounds good, now I'm debating on if I should go with hydro or nytro(gas) shocks, there is a $6 price difference, but if they perform and last all the same then why pay $25 more, what do you guys think?

When I bought my rig (89 351 3" Rancho lift) the rear shockes on the front quad were both broke snapped off at the bottom just hanging their. Drove for a month like that. then I replaced all new front shocks and I could not tell any difference in the drive. It really p'ed me off to spend all that money. So I guess you could say the the fronts of the quad are plenty.
