The front state MOUNT BOOT DOWN and unless you drive the metal bushing/sleeve out there is no way that you can mount them the other direction. My question is about the rear. They seem to need to be mounted BOOT DOWN as well. The end that slides over the upper stud does not have the metal bushing/sleeve. I looked on the Bilstein web site and I still cannot find anything. Please help! THANKS!
I got into the same thing a few months ago w/Bilesteins.I thought I was crazy and that I was installing them wrong.Come to find out, that is the correct way for them to be installed just as you described.
Earl, my directions said the boots at the top on the rear, boots down on the front. There's been much debate on the location of the boots and I,m stumped. The way I figure it besides the directions, if I didn't have any, I would want the boots up top so no water or debris would collect in the boot upside down, possibly leading to water seapage into the shock itself over time, not to mention the corrosion factor, rear shocks that is. The fronts have a sealed boot strap at both ends to prevent the contamination factor mentioned above. Edit, missed the direction part

Reason: No Directions
I just did not want to knock the factory bushing out so I mounted them exactly how they would fit my bracket bolts.I did concider the contamination aspect like Pop's mentioned.
That is the problem, they came with NO DIRECTIONS! Both the boots are the same so I am not sure what you mean about "sealed" boots.
Give me a minute and I'll pull the shocks I got from theshockwarehouse.. You have the same shocks as me, the fronts should have a heavier duty rubber boot on it, the boots on each end are zipped tied, the rears have a plastic thin boot, cheap if you ask me but its a boot. Hears the link, click on install. http://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/tech.cfm

Reason: Shock info
That's exactly what I just put on mine and it's boot down in front, up in the back. The labels will read right side up if mounted this way. The rear boots are a harder formed plastic and the front are a flexible rubber.
My boots are both the same front and rear, a very tight seal at the end when the mounting eye is and then zip tied around the large diameter cylinder. They are NOT the loose floppy rubber covers. The Bilstein labels are all right side up this way. The fronts specifiy to mount them boot side down. Why would they have the metal bushing already inserted if it was at the wrong end?
