Most vehicle temps read higher due to the proximity of the black top to the sensor, My DW's Fusion sensor is about 20 deg higher, the sensor is supposedly on the lower radiator support, a few inches above the road. Car is too low to the groud for me to even look for it.
Mines always off, sometime lower, sometimes higher. Yesterday it said it was 124F. I find the temp on Android Auto is almost always spot, which is crazy when you think that a local sensor is less accurate than something you're getting over the internet. Its pretty worthless in the truck, unfortunately.
Mine is normally within + - 3 degrees of what my weather app says. That being said, I have to give it 5-10 minutes after I start the truck to read somewhat accurately.

From what I saw, 124 wasn’t that far off in SoCal yesterday!
The temp sensor should be quite accurate. It’s located reasonably high off the ground and extended out away from the vehicle. There’s no reason for it not to be an accurate indication of the ambient air temp near the mirror.

This. Mine is typically higher... but giant black truck LOL
Looking in the service manual I don't see the sensor right off, but not familiar with the new Ford manuals yet.
I usually compare mine to the temperature from my local sensor in the back yard.
Since the temp sensor is in the passenger mirror bottom, would the chrome mirror cover help keep heat down and the temp closer to ambient? For those with chrome mirror covers (or silver, white) do you have overly high outside temp readings? Thanks.

Same here. My fusion is accurate. The temperature also reads higher initially but drops to normal quicker then my truck.
I have noticed the air temp is usually higher when I first fire up and take off after the truck has been sitting in the sun. Then after a few miles it pretty much dead on.
