I have a 2000 Excursion with a 6 prong plug. I want to change it to a 7 prong and install a trailer brake controller. Is the trailer plug recpt. connection at the rear (plug-in)? If so, are they available at Rock Auto or Amazon or dealer only? Any recommendations for a brake controller & wiring would also be appreciated.
Thanks
Tekonsha P3 for the controller. There is a plug behind the dash for the controller if it has never had a controller on it. It is above and to the right of the go pedal. You can buy the Ford adapter for the Tekonsha for very little money.
Are you sure it's not a 7 prong plug?
There are 6 prongs in a circle and the 7th is a center pin.
I have never seen a stock truck with a 6 pin. It is a very odd trailer connection. 6 pin has 5 round pins around 1 round center pin. The seven pin had 6 "blades" and one center pin. The 7th pin adds reverse lights.
Thanks for the input. My son has a Tek. I can use, just have to get the adapter & bracket. Definitely a 6 plug, the previous owner, my dad, all his trailers were 6. He bought it new so he must have ordered that way.
Another issue is mirrors. I need wider ones. Any recommendations?
Thanks again
I just finished the install of 08 style mirrors on my excursion from 1AAuto: https://www.1aauto.com/ford-mirror-p...9/i/trmrp00019. Wiring up the turn signals and marker lights were a minor PITA, but the mirrors have a much better blind spot mirror than the OEM tow mirrors.
