Buying a 1995 F350 7.3...it has an old Edge tuner...not sure what the program is....I am wondering if I should have the dealership restore to stock tune and pull the edge before I finalize the deal. It has a 4" lift and 315/75R16 tires, no engine modifications...do I even need a tuner if I do which one is recommended?

Im not real familiar with the edge, but there should be a function to return it to stock.
Im in the camp that believes in more power. So custom tunes will serve you well. IF all other maintance priorities have been addressed and the truck is up to par mechanically.
Several tuners to to choose from. Everyone has their own opinion on who is best.
i would have the dealer return it to stock and then get a chip if you feel it needs more power. a lot of people with edge have reported all kinds of problems when they try to uninstall the edge program and then have to drag the dead truck to the dealer to have the computer reprogrammed, or replaced.

Yep...exactly what I decided to do...safest for me anyway...In doing some research looks like a chip is the way to go over a tuner on these older trucks.
one other thing to remember, these trucks stock will only support about a 50-60 HP increase anything over that will only produce a lot of black smoke out of the exhaust.
I know Hydra units are the latest and greatest chip for these trucks, but used TS are all over the place used for $80-120 and easy to reburn for your truck with better tunes than their canned ones.

Yes...I am looking for towing / Economy type tunes only...most I see for Hydra or TS chips only add about 40HP for that level...The Heavy tow adds about 60HP....I am more about just having the engine run correctly...no race truck for my needs...thanks

Looking at both...Hydra is similar to a 6 position switch but you can update it via a laptop versus sending the chip in for re-burn...looks like custom tunes available from sponsor sites for either...I think I only need a few tune options...No start (anti-theft) / Stock / Tow + Economy / Heavy tow....so 4 max...Thanks
