so I went to change my fuel filter & drain the water out of it & noticed that the PO had unplugged the sensor........ when I went to unscrew the drain plug it sorta just fell out.....no threads just held in place by the oring....
am I correct in guessing that the plugs threads probably just rotted off? glad it didn't blow out going down the road
anybody got any pix of what this should look like?
I'm on a ipad & search sux..... so does hotel wifi
thanks

Slacker, some time back when changing my fuel filter I noticed the threads on the low point drain plug had degraded considerably and I came to the conclusion that the plug acts as a sacrificial anode in that the sulphur reacts with the water and eats at the plug and not vital engine components. No one on the blog agreed with me but I have stuck with the stock drain plug and I drain a bit of fuel every time I get underneath the truck. The fuel at first comes out brown (usually a very small amount) then runs clear. I have noticed a lot less degredation in the plug since. Just my $.02.

All I can say is that I have had the brass (upgraded) plug in for 10 years (approximately) and have had no ill effects from it. The plug has not corroded any either.
