Well my drain plug leaks now. Can I just get the new plug and install it with out taking anything apart or is housing stripped? I know I have seen this talked about before, but it takes hours going thru all these post trying to find something.
Hope some of you late nighters know so I can fix in the am.
Nothing to take a part to put in the new drain plug. Give it a try.
But, if it isn't the o-ring that is leaking and the threads are stripped, you might be looking at a new cover, which you will want to put the upgraded plug in anyway.
My gut is it is stripped. It doesn't seem to get tight at all. My nephew drove my truck for about 8 months and did filter changes before he gave it back. It had some fuel on it when I went to drain earlier today. Soon as I touched it, it seemed like it was loose. Now I can't get it to hold at all. Of course truck will not run with fuel pouring out the bottom.
How hard is cover to replace? I assume I will have to take the HFCM off. Crap, I had things to do tomorrow.
I know it sounds way redneck but if the new plug proves housing is stripped and you dont have time, money, or it will take time to get the new unit just put a small amount of JB weld, or anything that will seal it up, at the top of threads with the old plug. You wont have to get in there anytime soon this will allow you to run and give you time to get the replacement unit.
highly not recommended but if I was in a bind and truck need to be running...
The kits should be inter changeable according to what I was told by local Ford SD dealer. I was told that all the manifold covers are the same over the years and HFCM configurations. I believe it was 05' and up that did away with the heater in the HFCM.
How often do you have to drain this thing.. I've owned my truck for about a yr now have 8k miles and never done it... Unless it was done by Ford when I got my first oil change.. How would I know if they drained it?
