Random grinding noise
I have a 2007 F-150 and just the other day it started having a random grinding noise that appears to be coming from the front wheel on the drivers side. The noise is completely random. The times I have heard the noise I was driving on a straight away going somewhere between 50-70 mph. Any ideas would be appreciated.

It's very likely an IWE issue. These are the "hubs" that engage the front wheels, and are engaged by a spring. They are held OUT of engagement by vacuum. If the IWE leaks vacuum or the source is lost, the hub will try to engage. Most often the problem is the control solenoid on the firewall, behind the battery.

Next time you hear it slow down and engage the 4WD. If the noise disappears then its the hub partly engaging. Trace down the vacuum system from the hub all the way to the pump. The vacuum canister is a flat box mounted behind the battery (at least my 04 is). The canister is in two halves and the seam was leaking on mine. New canister solved my issue.
