My 2003 f350 diesel 5.9 with 4r100w 4×4 is showing the trans. Overheating and it's not. It's the trans temp. Sensor I think anyways it's been running good. Shifting kind of hard into the next gear threw all the gears. When it's cold it takes it a few seconds before it takes off after giving it fuel. Today it didn't want to shift out of 1st gear. No matter how much pedal you gave it it would go between 1800 and 2600 rpm and wouldn't travel over 10 mph. I pulled over and checked it out. No leaks the fluid was at a good level. I jumped back In it to limp back to the shop and it drove just fine. I just changed the trans filter and flushed it real good about a month ago and there was zero metal on the magnet. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would realy appreciate it.
Need more info..
How many miles on your trans?
Is the fluid pink and smell ok?
When is the last time the fluid and filter were serviced?
The TCM codes (trans computer) need to be read, both current and pending trouble codes. A good trans shop or the dealer will have the correct TCM code reader. The "free read" big box stores will not. The best way to troubleshoot an automatic trans is ferreting the TCM codes and to perform a line pressure test on each line (circuit). Again a reputable trans shop will be able to perform both.

Hi Dru, welcome to FTE!
We need a bit more clarification from you. There never was a 5.9L diesel put into an F350, I think you're getting confused with the Cummins 5.9L that was used in Dodge trucks of that vintage. The 2003 F350 either has a 7.3L or 6.0L engine, and the transmissions are very different. Are you sure you have a 4R100? That would mean you have a 7.3L engine.
droldsmorland is correct, the transmission codes are needed for a diagnosis. Which fluid did you flush it with?
I flushed it about a month ago. I used the correct recomended fluid. I was told that was exremely important. I bought a 5 gallon bucket from our friends at murphy oil just up the road. I think i did a good job of it. I turned it on and went threw all the gears so they would dump any fluid they might be hidding. Filled and dumped about three times until it came out like new and Changed the filter and gasket although i felt the gasket in it was a better guality than the aftermarket one thats in there now.but its not leaking. It was a little dark but no metal shavings on the magnet. Thanks for the correction it is the 6.0 its definitely not the 7.3. Bummer. However it is 4x4 so it is the 4R100 trans. Another question off topic. My boss has a 96' f350 with the 7.3 150k miles some body damage cosmetic and some crap interior but mechanicaly sound. Whats a good price i should offer him for it. I hear a lot of good things about that motor and want the truck to build out a camper ontop for the kids to hang out in while we pull our 24' boat.

The 6.0L never came with a 4R100 transmission. You have a 5R110W transmission.
You said you used the right fluid. If you put in the right fluid for a 4R100 you need to change it to MERCON SP now! The right fluid for a 4R100 is MERCON V, and that fluid can be death to the solenoids that control a 5R110W.
