Gotta m8 with a 7.3 and about 100K miles on her. If he puts he's foot into it the trans will flare out to redline in any gear and not go any where. Trans temp is fine until it starts to flare then it will go through the roof. Are we looking at the TC or a cactus trans.
Does the OD OFF light flash? That would indicate that codes are stored. You need the codes to know if it is the torque converter or the trans. Either way the trans has to come out.
spoke to him again. No flash/no codes
Apparently 2-3yrs back it went in for a 2nd gear issue and Ford said they changed the calibration regarding the shift strategies. He got it back and it was still slipping in 2nd. So they sent it to a trans shop (who my m8 knew the owner) and the box was full of metal. Everything was replaced with new OEM parts.
The problem is now, if you drive it with a soft pedal all is good. No flare up or heat issues. As soon as you put ya foot into it will rev out to red line and the heat goes through the roof. He has taken the pan off and it is as clean as a whistle.
Now he is contemplating ordering a new TC from JW. But doesnt want to spend $1400 if the trans needs to be replaced. If that is the case he will get one of JW's trans shipped over.
