Hey Fritz, I'm not Bill, of course. But thought I'd chime in if you don't mind. The round versus sweep speedo doesn't affect the cable in any way. The same connector works with both at the speedo head. Just FYI.

The problem with the C6 not being original is some people might compare it to the 1965/66 MX COM and assume to use that cable. But, the 1965/66 MX COM speedo connection is on the passengers side while the C6 is on the drivers side. So, the cable for the 1965/66 MX COM (C5TZ-17260-BS) at 93.6" is going to be too long to run down the drivers side and into the C6 connector. You'd have too much excess by about 18". Plus finding one NOS is looking rough. You-know-who bought the last one. LOL.

My own thought would be to check into going to a 1967/69 4x2 C6 cable (also 1967 4x2 MX COM) which is 75.42" long. I'd ask in the next forum (1967-1972) up if the connector is the same at the speedo head in our trucks, but I'm just about 100% sure it is. They do both (MX COM and C6) use the same "Type C" connector on the transmission end. No question there.

C7TZ-17260-AB will work with both MX C-O-M & C6.

However, if the housing isn't kinked and all you need is the inner woven steel core, auto parts stores sell a woven steel core kit.

Cut it to length, coat with a fine film of graphite and install it in the housing.

Thank you gentlemen.
It 'IS' a C6. I put it in there some 30 years ago. However, back than I wanted a cruise control so the original cable and housing was 'deep sixed'. Can't remember with cable I went to, but it went to a Chrysler cruise control unit from the C6 and I mounted the cruise unit on the inner fender. I have a shorter cable made up that went from the speedO to the cruise control unit. My desires have changed and I am going to remove this cruise unit. Therefore, I need a complete housing and cable that goes from the speedo to the C6...
Is this # C7TZ-17260-AB the one I need? cable and housing?
Thanks

M.R....You must be looking for that cable for me! Glad you asked. Interesting thing...or not, is that Rock Auto lists an ATP Y 803 cable as a cross-reference to the number you have above. That speedo cable is only $8.17, but is also specified at 83" rather than 75.5".

What am I missing here?? The cables that match the part number above all have two female threaded ferrules. Both of the C-6 transmissions I have...have the speedo cables with the ends shown here. The top one is from my 66 when it had the 3 speed trans. I don't get how to make the "connection"....

Sorry, I see them, pictures were slow to come up. The female end attaches to that 'driven gear' on the right side of those unit that are OUT of the picture. Post a pic to the right a little of the one you posted here. I see you have both the yellow and pink. Which one is in that tranny you have?

...that's the "problem". There is no female attached to the gear and insert which goes to the transmission. Just out of the picture is the cable sheath swaged to what you see in the photo, and not detachable. I'll have to look to see which color came out of which tranny...I believe both were from 74...but I have one C-6 installed and another with a short tailshaft sitting. Thanks for checking these out....apparently I need a different cable setup. The cable I have from the '74 has a plastic clip to attach to the speedo, whereas, the 66 needs a threaded ferrule.

1973/79's used a different system to attach the cable to the speedometer head than 1961/72's.

...I understand what I need at the speedo. Do I need a fitting at the trans which replaces that shown in the pic and accepts the threaded ferrule on the cable above?

Well Crap. I had other things planned today but I guess I've just must know. Guess I'll go out and move a bunch of stuff and uncover one of the trucks and take a look. Its been too many years since I installed the C6 cables.
If any of you have pics of the C6 trans (left side) and maybe some close-ups, could you post them. I know there are a lot more guys here that have gone to the C6 behind the FE.
I do believe John posted some pics a # of years back. Maybe I can check my pics. I lost a bunch a few years back when my computer went deep six.
