Sounds like a nice system.

Are you planning on using the passive cross overs or use the processor in the VXI.

When you go active with the Focal K2`s, they can present some very weird impedance readings to the amp.

Looking forward to your build.

Will do. I took the rear wall carpet out and am planning to build the box with a fiberglass back wall so I can take advantage of the popout space. The speaker only needs 2 and 5/8"s mounting depth and about another 1 and 1/2" clearance for the top of the speaker and grill (guesstimate from an old car audio buddy). I'm more worried about the acoustics of such a shallow box. I'm hoping to start building everything in the next couple weekends and will assess further if the TW5 will for sure fit. If not, 2 10" TW3s will have to do as I've been unimpressed with just about every other shallow sub.

Yeah, I should've picked some up when I first bought the truck, they were going for cheap last year.

They are amazing but I couldn't justify doubling the price for my door speakers. Maybe down the road I'll look at updating to those and moving the Mille Pro components to the back.

I've been working on mine this week. Preview pic. Waiting on some RCA's to route but it's playing. Still have to install speakers but that's all that's mainly left. Enclosure will look like pic without Raptor logo. List of equipment.

(2) JL Audio 900/5 HD
(1) Masconi 6to8 processor

Tweeters (Morel MT-250 Front Pillars)
Mids ( Audio Frog GS 690 6x9 Front Doors)

Focal Flax PC165F coaxs Rear Doors
(2) JL Audio 13TW5v2 Subs in a MTI Enclosure

One 900/5 is bridged on 6x9's in doors and running a 13TW5. The other 900/5 is running tweeters and rears speakers and the other 13Tw5. Head room won't be an issue.

I wanted to do tw5 but the audio shop told me the tw3 sound better? The installer said the tw5 sound hollow? Have you herd both subs back to back?

I want to put a subwoofer against the back wall in a box, and not use any of my under seat storage area. What is the best setup to go with? Is it a single JL 12 inch woofer or what do you guys recommend? Thanks

A shallow JL TW3 10 inch will give you the best option for air space but the TW3 12 inch or even the TW5 13.5 inch will be compromised a little. To give you an idea, the best size sealed box for the 10 inch is .60 - .66 ft and this info came from a JL tech that I spoke to but the minimum .50 will do if space is really at a premium.

I`m sure either of these can be done but to utilized and get the best air space for the 12 or 13.5 inch sub, a custom box will have to be built.

Thanks - I am thinking about something like this, that would allow the seat to raise/lower like it does now with nothing behind it (need to confirm this will work as I expect though): https://www.supercrewsound.com/17F250CCBTSTW5war.html

Is 0.8 cf enough for the TW3 to operate well? I don't need to have it so strong it booms - just want great, clean bass sound.

If that enclosure will allow you to raise and lower the rear seat without any problems then i`d say you`ve found your sub box. Yes, the 12 TW3 will work in that airspace but according to the website, that box was make for the TW5 13.5 inch shallow JL sub. The 12 inch TW3, even though it`s smaller, it has a deeper mounting depth than the TW5 and a different cutout.

The best thing to do first is to call that company and ask them if they can make the mounting baffle and cutout for the TW3 12 inch. If they can`t then i`d just stick with the TW5.
They didn`t mention it on their website but there`s a good chance that you`ll also have to remove the jack that`s behind the rear seat as well.

Mounting depth aside, is there much sonic difference between the TW3 and TW5 that is noticeable in a sealed box?

Thanks for the note about the jack - I had forgot about that. Might put the jack and tire stuff in a swing case in the bed anyway.

In a sealed box with the proper amount of airspace, both of these drivers will work and sound great. You will not be disappointed in either of them but the TW5 can handle much more power and it`ll move more air because it has a larger come area.

I`ve heard both of them before and in my opinion, the TW5 sounds tighter.

My experience the 13TW5 needs .75 to 1 cubic foot to operate at its best efficiency. Depending on your processor you can cheat a little. I may be a little JL biased though. This is a pic of my garage queen. 1997 Lexus SC300 NA-T.
