The part of the shaft that sticks out of the door looks like the one on Ebay.
Here's what I'm wondering. The crank handle I have, has a place for a set screw to secure the crank handle to the shaft but it also has the slot for the clip to be inserted.
Some of the parts stores on line show the 1956 crank handle, included in the picture is the set screw. Some stores show that their crank handle fits 1953-1956, and some show a crank handle for 1953-1955 and includes clip, and then they show a 1956 crank handle separately.
I'm wondering if the crank I'm having trouble with is for a 1956 (since it has a place for the set screw, the set screw was not included in the package). May be in the warehouse stocking area it got placed in the 1953-1955 bin instead of the 1956 bin. I didn't keep or pay attention to the part number on the packaging. My invoice shows B5C-8123342;
I purchased the cranks from Midwest Early Ford. I'm going to contact them about my problem.
Here is the picture from their online catalog. The "more info" tab is worthless, it just shows what is already displayed.
Really? Didn't you read the above? They do not interchange.
I need to figure out what to change so I can put the 56 handles on my truck. Since I need to buy all new parts anyway, I would like to use the 56 handles.
The post from "NumberDummy" is 100% correct. The '56 window crank will NOT fit on a '53 window crank shaft. I ordered 2 new 1953 window crank handles using the part number that "NumberDummy" provided for the 1953 F100 in his post above. I received those crank handles today.
There is a difference in the splines in the window crank handle, between the '56 and the '53. My '53 is at a repair shop now so I'm not able to install the new window cranks, but I'm sure the new ones will fit like a glove.
The splines in the '56 crank look to be around 3/16 of an inch shorter than the splines in the '53 crank. The splines in the '56 would not match up with the existing shaft splines in the door once the clip "ears" snaped into place. The crank would just spin freely.
Also, the new cranks DO NOT have a hole for a set screw.
