I believe the 53-55 shafts are all the same but the 56 shaft is different as the 56 handles are held on with a set screw and the 53-55 handles use a spring clip set up.
I was pretty sure the shafts were the same since the suppliers don't list two different remotes. I assumed the set screw would do a better job although I have been told that they don't. Had my handles off and the clips always frustrate me.

My truck came with a bunch of extra cranks and handles which I believe to be 55's. I also parted out a 56 wrecker. I also got those parts and regulators of a 54 grain truck in a local bone yard. The shafts from the 54-55 and 56 appear to be the same- not positive but appear to be. The parts off the 56 wrecker did have the set screws, One broke off in the handle. Anyway while trying to get a decent set to use on my truck I tried the combinations. It appears the 55-54 parts will fit on the 56 shafts and hold with the clips, but you can't use the chrome/black spacers. It also appears the 56 parts will fit on the 55-54 shafts. The reason I say "appears" is because some of this stuff is worn out and won't fit tight. Also I have some weird "China" window cranks I bought real cheap at a going out of business sale years ago that use clips. I assumed those were for a GM car but they also worked on the 56 shafts. Clear as mud, right??
I have a new set of 56 handles and an old set of 55 shafts, I am pretty sure they will work but not got around to trying them yet. I'll try and make a point of doing it before the weekend and get back to you but can't promise.
I'm replacing my inside window crank handles (ordered them from Obsolete Ford parts in Oklahoma City) on my 1953 F100 and the crank has a place for the set screw, but no set screw came with the cranks, clips were included.
Found that to be interesting.
