If you think about it the over head are in a spot you should already be used to looking. Right above the rear view mirror. I also got mine there to block the sun coming at me from that location.
I used the Velcro that came with it. Just super cleaned everything it would touch with alcohol. Even had to reuse it when I got a new windshield. Just used a heat gun to get it off the old windshield. Been there over a year and a half now.
Not sure when they included a drivers side pillar grab handle, my 01 was not equipped, nor is it pre-drilled or threaded for one. If I was set up for a pillar handle, I would have added that and chosen a different gauge pod location.
Keep in mind the pillar pod does increase the blind spot there a little, not bad, doesn't really bother me.
To the left of the bottom empty bay, I installed the included secondary dimmer, the back-lighting is wired to the dimming circuit, but you get a better range with the second one. I don't have a daylight pic as of yet.
I lowered my visor to show where it sits in relation to the gauges. I mounted my dimmer to the bar under the dash where the bottom of the fuse panel cover sits.
C'mon Twitch, that's not exactly fair when you're comparing apples to oranges. Clay actually sells them for less than your link: AutoMeter Overhead Console
The first link that was posted included the gauges for the pod, hence the large price tag.

As for the grab handle, go to the tech folder and you can read how to modify the older Excursions to install the grab handles that came in the newer Excursions.
A single pod fits on A-pillar for 1 or 2 sensors not available from computer,
and you can keep the grab handle. An OBD2 gauge gives you flexibility to watch anything that is monitored by the computer.
Way easier, more flexible,
I have the 3 gauge overhead pod. I believe its the Autometer one. Its painted to match the interior. I like it because its not really noticeable but you can see it when you need to.
I put in the all in one EDGE. It was cheaper and it has a ton of info.
I've been researching the Edge and it definitely looks like a great choice however placement is a challenge. In the lower left of my windshield is where the Garmin GPS is. I don't want to raise it up to put an Edge below it. Too much obstruction of the windshield. It would be great if it could go where that useless cubby hole is but it would cost a fortune to have it custom molded.
Any thoughts? I've looked all over the internet and the dash fixture before the A-pillar looks to be the cleanest install but then I'm back to my GPS dilemma.
