I've decided to invest in a gauge pod (overhead) and have been searching around a bit. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I would like to hear from those of you who have proven components and methods that with your help will save me headaches. So far I've decided I prefer an overhead pod as opposed to a pillar mount and thinking a 3-gauge setup (boost, EGT, and Trans temp) would be about the best. Also I'd like the gauges to match my dash of course for coloring. My interior color is tan, if that means anything at this stage.
Can any of you more experienced Excursion owners point me the right direction? Thanks!
Ok here is where confusion begins... I've looked at different mounts and contrary to my first post, I can see how the overhead mount view can be impeded by the overhead console yet the pillar mount looks a lot easier to see and makes installation a breeze. What do you guys think, which is preferred?
Also when it comes to pricing, I'm seeing from roughly $300-$500 or more for the set. The Isspro EV2 on the high end and Glowshift on the low end. I'm sure there's a reason for such a price difference. Are you paying for a name? Can anyone tell me why they chose one over the other? Obviously repeatability and accuracy are paramount. Wouldn't all brands and models be considered equal in their performance? I would prefer they match my 2001 Excursion gauges cosmetically.
Have you looked at a F650 lower dash gage setup? I love mine...it looks as close to factory as a home brew gage install can. My install starts at post 197 of the build thread in my signature.
I have both overhead and pillar mounts. I have 3 on the pillar and the 4 overhead. The only gauge that is difficult to see at my height (5'11") is the far gauge. I can see the bottom half of that one. That is why i stuck the volt meter there. The others i can see fine.
My EVO2 gauges i can set the warning light on each and 2 of my gauges i have relays attached to turn on a buzzer to really get my attention. Low fuel pressure and pyro over temp.

That looks awesome! Does the panel come already shaped (molded) like that? I was doing a quick ebay search and didn't find one. I have the same Tekonsha P3 in the same location. I really like your idea and would like to research that for mine. Did you do a thread on the install and what keywords can I use to search for the parts?

Nicmike and some of the other FTE guys turned me on to the F650 option. I’ve got a list of parts I used in the 1st post of my build thread. Google F650 dash and look at the “images” tab. Lots of options out there. There are automatic and manual transmission versions of the F650 dash. Both are direct fit into superduty/excursion dash.

I have to do some more searching but so far the F-650 dash looks like the best option. I saw your thread and wow, you put a lot of work into your Excursion. Mine is blue as well but only a 2WD.
I would like to have all three gauges together and it looks like they would fit nicely in the bottom section.
I didn't know any of the Excursions had grab handles on the A-Piller drivers side. Mine doesn't. I use the steering wheel!
I'm gonna have to think on this one. I like the A-Piller mount cause it's right there easy to see. Same with the top mount however, the overhead console blocks part of one of the gauges and is a bit further to look while driving. The F-650 dash mount is very factory and looks cool but, your eyes have to move farther to read the gauge. I guess after a short time you get accustom to it and the locations not chosen will feel insignificant. Choices, choices....
