On an offroad camping trip, I lost the ability to open my tailgate. The plastic retainer that holds the rod to the release mechanism in the center of the tailgate disintegrated and it took a set of needle nose vise grips to open the tailgate.
Bronco graveyard sells new clips for a buck apiece. I was pleased how easy they were to replace. Back in business!

You can buy the tailgate rod nylon retainer clips in the "Help" section of any auto parts store, so you don't have to buy from Bronco Graveyard and then pay shipping charges.
Same puppy as 1973/90's LTD/Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis/Town Car door lock cylinder link rods. 1973/96 F100/350, 1997 F250 H/D & F350 tailgate link rods.

I get Auveco stuff from a local guy that sells body shop supplies. Check around in your area. You can download their catalog at www.auveco.com. Those clips are on page 450.
