tailgate handle question....

tailgate handle question....
Ok, call me a moron, but I can't get my new tailgate handle on....the original one broke last week, so I got a new one. It arrived today and I tried to put it on.
No luck....I think I have missing parts....
One of the pole pieces inside the tailgate itself has a broke plastic piece on it. The other one doesn't.
I'm guess I need new plastic tips so the metal pole hook thingys still stay in the handle parts.
Sounds confusing to write it out.
Any help?

Those are called rod lock clips, they're about a dollar a piece from any of the popular places (LMC, JBG, Mac's etc). You can also sometimes find them at Napa and other places. When you install them, put the clips into the handle arms first, then the tailgate pull-rods, and then swing the clips around to lock the rods in place.
