I don't have time to test this out for you guys but maybe give this a try:
On your Mac, hit 'command' and 'spacebar' at the same time
In the small box that opens, type 'Archive Utility' and hit 'enter'
It'll open the OS X archiver
Click 'Archive Utility' in upper left corner of screen and click 'Preferences'
In the dropdown for "Use archive format" change it to "Zip archive"
Close the app and then try downloading and unzipping the SYNC files again
This is just a guess. If it doesn't work, try the above steps and select "regular archive" instead of Zip archive, then try again. If both of these fail, then yeah, use the Extractor app as suggested above or install Windows.
I tried the update today and after 50 minutes my system is stuck on "Updating System Software...." Any ideas?
Mine did this the first time too. I let it go for over an hour (when working my truck runs 14hrs straight). Anyway I unplugged, shut truck down and restarted. Second time it was done in 20mins.
I got it fellas. I just switched to a non apple desktop computer. It was so much easier. Unzipped one file and copied the three things to the USB and I'm sitting in my truck while it does the update. Thanks for the help and quick responses. Note to any one else struggling I'd Segway not using a Mac computer.
Glad to hear that you got it to work. Don`t give up on the Mac for the next update, once you download that extractor app, you`ll be shocked how quick and easy it is.

doing by wifi question.....does truck have to be running? also downloaded to computer to put on usb if OTA doesn't work......
I had the engine on while it said updating software.. I waited few minutes n had to go inside the house so I shut off the engine went in n came back out few hrs later n checked it.. N it said software updated n verified it was ver 3.0
I did the update, but it said the system was already using the latest version. Guessing MY18's came with the updated version or perhaps late build dates.

I'm in the same boat. I have the correct file structure/naming, and I'm stuck just like you. I just left the USB in, and now it's been a couple days stuck here. I'm out of ideas...
