Fuel pumps

I was looking through old threads about this but am still not sure if it's ok or not. I was driving my f100 and it stalled saw that I had no fuel pumping from acc. pump. It's done this a few times in the garage. And I'd have to take mech pump off and prime it by hand. My question, I have an electric pump, can I put it in the frame rail and only use it to prime the system and then let the mech do the work when running? Or would it be best to just use electric fuel pump and get a regulator? Thanks

If the pump is losing prime it probably has a leak in the inlet tube or fuel line. Fix the leak you want need to prime it.

I've always had good results with the stock mechanical pumps right up until they wear out. Typically get about 75,000 miles on one, but it varies.

Just a side thought: Is it still the stock in-cab tank? Are you sure your fuel cap is properly vented? An un-vented cap can lead to fuel starvation issues. This is not real common, but we have run into it before.

yes it's original in cab tank. I have run it before with cap off and did it before. And it is a new pump. Odd thing though is that I had just a tiny bit of gas in oil. My thought was maybe from the pump but idk.

Yes, gas in the oil is very possibly coming from the pump. Which engine did you have?

I got the 352. I just had it out right now and no problems. I'm wondering if it's a bad check valve if they have those in the pump
