Hello! I've just replaced a fuel pump on a 1968 F100 360 engine that I recently acquired. The truck has been sitting untouched for about 8 years.I pulled the fuel tank and emptied the old gas (still looked good).I've poured 10 gal. of fresh gas in the tank. The old pump was not putting any fuel out the outlet that goes to the carb. I installed a new fuel pump and still can't get any fuel pumping through it when turning the engine over.I have blew air through the line from the pump to the fuel tank and even blew straight down into the tank. All lines seem clear. Is there something that sends the fuel to the pump or does the fuel pump suck the gas all the way from the tank? Any ideas are definitely appreciated!
Your fuel pump eccentric may have broken or has worn real bad. Pull the fuel pump and you can look into the timing cover with a flashlight. If you unhook the fuel line from the pump does the gas free flow? There is no feeder pump in the tank or anything.
i had one that the screen on the tank unit had completly plugged with rust , not real common but from sittingt that long a possibility, good luck , bob
yeah you should check the condition of the sending unit. The screens that suck the gas fill with crap and what not. You might want to check that the pump was installed correctly.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. My brother and I installed the new pump one night in the dark following the written instructions.I pulled it back off yesterday and saw that the pump had "in" and "out" written beside the outlets. I hate to admit it,but we had the hoses connected backwards! Oh well, now I've found a new problem, but I'll start a new thread for it.Thanks again everyone.
