So I have a E99 7.3, I put in late model injectors and turbo (AD injectors and 01 turbo). Just bought a hydra tuner and wanted to get a new PCM before installing the tune. My PCM is a XLE8, i wanted to put in a PMT 1 or PMT 2 to have more options once I install the chip. My question is, is it going to make that much of a difference if i get a better PCM, or does it not matter since I'm putting the chip in? Also will having new injectors and turbo make the tunes run funky since the PCM is meant for an E99 with smaller injectors and turbo? Will i not have many tuning options if i type in the XLE code into the hydra flash?

I replaced mine, to a 2001 and I had it updated before using it. I noticed better shifts, smoother idle. You need to keep your E99 PCM for IIRC a CCT.
If you have an auto reference the picture, this is where my research took me.
I'm not a tuner, from what I understand the tunes will over write the stock shift points. I believe you need to get the PCM before getting your tunes. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will come by ... I looked for about 3 months before finding one.
Go ask in the 7.3 forum you might get lucky and have cleatus or pocket stumble on your thread those are the ones that will know. The tunes will override the PCM strategy. I wouldn’t worry about buying a PCM.

The Hydra will "bypass" the tune on the PCM and use the one you have selected stored on the Hydra. You have 15 tunes you can store on the Hydra. 00 defaults to the PCM which effectively removes the chip from the system and everything runs from the PCM and whatever is on there. 16 is NO START. The other 15 are up to you and how many you want to buy/use.
I'm not sure how the E99 will react with new equipment and stock tune but I know on the L99-03 7.3L it will idle okay but run rough. The throttle is very touchy too. You do not need to mess with flashing the PCM if you don't want to if you get a chip with tunes for your setup (Hydra, TS 6-Position, DP F5/F6).

Thank you, i guess my only question is, do i need to get custom tunes since i have late model injectors? Correct me if I'm wrong, but when i type in my PCM code into the Hydra flash software it will use programs designed for an early 99 (small turbo and 130cc injectors), which would cause it to run funky since the injectors are the 140cc late model injectors and the turbo is bigger.
That I couldn't tell you. I'm guessing it would run okay since you still have split shots but it would not take advantage of the newer stuff. As for temps, smoke, etc., I would call PHP and ask them. Tell them what you have and they can tell you if it will work for what you want/need.
