I'm slowly trying to make my early 99 the truck I should have bought and one of the things I want to address is the PCM. A while back Ron posted a list of PCM codes that are interchangeable that I haven't been able to find, but I still have a few questions. My early is a Cali fuel model with splits- weren't the Federal emissions trucks singles for a while? Is that programming in the PCM or a function of the injector? If anyone finds that list that Ron posted please re-post so I can find it again Also if anyone has a line on a PCM let me know.
I thought any 7.3 PCM would work for you- IIRC, I could use any code for mine, all it does is update the tranny program and injector timing etc, but I've never heard of a e99 or later using singles. I do like them though- I got the 175's, but am thinking about getting bigger once I get a BB turbo.

So all the SD's run splits? I know the later ones had 140cc instead of 120cc but I thought until 01 or so some ran singles.
I think basically any PCM will work so long as its for an auto, the guys at the scrap yards don't know anything and trying to find one is a real pain because when using car-part dot com you have to go year by year when searching for the PCM.
I don't know much about the PCM's, I know I have the PMT-1 in my truck. And also have forged rods. Lots of people say the 01's don't have forged rods but the first ones do.
I got a PMT2 from car-part dot com. $80 shipped to my door. The same yard I bought mine from had a few others at the same price, you may give them a call. 1-800-477-1367.
Is the PMT1 better than the PMT2?

Thanks Chase. I want to replace my XLE with a PMT before I go to single shots. When I went with DP Tuner I had to send in my PCM for a couple of tunes because Jody didn't have an XLE at the time.
I have no idea if a PMT1 is better than a PMT2. From this list I can't determine why they have different calibration numbers.
Probably just minor tweaks in the tuning I'm guessing.
Rick- from what I'm told it's a plug and play mod- should make the engine run better, improved trans control, and activates the "Cruise" light in the cluster when you set the cruise (nope, the early birds don't do that! ) I'll post an impression as soon as I get it installed.
FWIW to other early bird owners who may be reading this- in an email from Jody @ DP Tuner he told me that he is much better able to support the later PCM's with his tuning than he is the early 99 PCM's... another good reason to make the switch.
Will do Rick.
Robin- the PMT2 is programmed for more clutch holding pressure than the PMT1, so it may be better if you tow a lot. I'm excited about trying it out... come on big brown truck!
