So I have a E99 7.3, I put in late model injectors and turbo (AD injectors and 01 turbo). Just bought a hydra tuner and wanted to get a new PCM before installing the tune. My PCM is a XLE8, i wanted to put in a PMT 1 or PMT 2 to have more options once I install the chip. My question is, is it going to make that much of a difference if i get a better PCM, or does it not matter since I'm putting the chip in? Also will having new injectors and turbo make the tunes run funky since the PCM is meant for an E99 with smaller injectors and turbo? Will i not have many tuning options if i type in the XLE code into the hydra flash?
If your e99 is a California emissions truck, it has split shot injectors. If it is federal emissions, it has single shots. If you switch from single to split or vice-versa, you will need to get tunes. Otherwise, tuning isn't required, but still recommended.
All e99 were split shots. You had AB code injectors. The AA code injectors from the 94-97 trucks are smaller single shots. I think it was in this period when the CA version differed and went to the split shot earlier.
As I mentioned in your other thread, I have an E99 and upgraded my PCM to a PMT 3 and noticed a significant improvement in shifting and idling as well as how it drove overall. The E99 came with 130 injectors the later models came with 140, which is also what I installed when I did new injectors. I may be wrong in my thinking here but if the E99 PCM (xle8) is programmed to dump 130 cc worth of fuel and you upgrade to 140 sticks then either you have to have that addressed with a new PCM or in your tunes. When I bought a TS 6 chip they asked for my PCM code.
