Electrical/Ignition Issues?
1968 Ford F-100 Stepside.
Bought 2 years ago, fully restored, not original engine, 302 V8, but don't know brand, has lots of edelbrock parts on it.
Manual transmision, 4 gears, on the floor.
The issue: Starts up fine but after driving for a bit anywhere from 5-15 minutes, sputters out and dies. Won't restart, can't even push start, it sounds like it's trying to turn over but won't catch.
Some background: a year ago this same thing happened and it turned out to be a bad ignition coil. had it replaced and had no issue. Took it to a shop when the issue popped up again last month, they replaced the ignition switch and said it was all good but it still been cutting out on me.
My theories: I am not super skilled in auto repair but I know a little. My thought was maybe it might be an issue with spark plugs?
I am in the Hampton Roads area of VA, if anyone knows any good shops in the area that handle antique/custom vehicles.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gray
Do you have the necessary tools here? A shop manual, timing light, vacuum gauge, DVOM, various tools and screwdrivers?
You could go broke if you keep taking her to a shop as these newbies generally don't know much about our older vehicles and their computers that tell you what the problem is won't work here. Best if you school yerself on the trucks.
Let us know what ignition system you have...we can troubleshoot issues from there without you throwing parts at her in hopes it fixes the problem.
If you don't know what the problem is, how can it be fixed?
And welcome to FTE
