what is this?!

Pulled out the instrument cluster of my '68 F250 and saw this, disconnected/severed by a previous owner? Anyone know what it is?

The red/blue wire goes from the key switch to the starter solenoid. I snipped the red/blue wire in half, added female spade lugs and plugged it into my clutch switch so the clutch needs to pushed in before the engine will start. It would work the same way for an automatic. You would need to be in P or N before the engine would start.

arapf, does your NSS work- Do you have to be in park or neutral to start the truck?

this is starting to make sense now that I think about it. my truck was an automatic originally and the previous owner converted it to a 4spd manual. Would it be reasonable to assume that this is disconnected because of that conversion?

Yes, that pigtail would go to the neutral safety switch.

A "Clutch Saftey Switch"... I like that concept... but it needs an emergency override

I have that same plug dangling around in my truck. Always Wondered what is was for! I for one don't like neutral/clutch switches. I find them to be a nuisance.

Take the electrical tape off.

You may find that there are only two wires there, each looping from one pin on that plug back to another pin on that plug.

Normal setup according to my 1970 wiring diagram.

One circuit is for the Starting circuit (Ignition Switch to Starting Motor Relay), the other provides power for the Reverse Switch and the Windshield Wiper system.

Likely that nothing was "disconnected".

Re-wrap with electrical tape when you're done.
