Hey, you for got to add the upgraded TQ.
That will run about $600 to $1200.
We are up to $4200 or more. maybe $400 for the install and fluid.
That might just about cover the down payment on your 6.7!

It comes with the a HD Torque converter, not the full billet cover unit that was posted earlier (that is actually discontinued) but it is a lower stall converter.
I see no reason to run a better converter in this warranty scenario. If the bulletproof trans isn't, why try to make a known lesser trans in to one, at a minimum you will jeopardize your warranty that we are trying so hard to get.
Okay guys here is the story. When I went to John Woods he advertised life time trans, just as BTS did back when. To be fare to John it's been several years now, but I took it back to him at 30K miles because of a noise in the trans mission. After the 4 plus hour drive the noise was hard to here. He serviced it, at my cost, we went to lunch and he told me if there was ever a problem he'd repair it. Well the noise never went away completely, but if you drove it long distances you wouldn't here it. I was worse in the morning when you let off the gas and it slowed down. To back track, I was going up Cajon pass here on highway 15 north to dune mont dunes. Was pulling at 8K -10K max trailer with toys in it. Set at 1900 rpm's at 61 mph someone got in front of me and I hit the brake, then stepped back on just enough to get up to speed. It went boom and nothing. I went back and forth with John to no satisfaction for me. Last price was $3300.oo to freshen it up. He would not give me an out the door price. There was several add on's in are e-mails and I didn't feel really good about letting him have it. First it was June then finely March 21th. But he never really got back with me on that date for set up. I went a different way. Thank you Brad and others who PM'd me with help. Found a guy Domestic Diesel recommended to do the trans. The O/D planetary was in pieces. Along with forward clutch drum problems O/D sprag race half shaft and miscellaneous things and piece's. The guy who did the repairs builds trans for super stock races and other things so took a change. If your in the area, pm me and I'll give you his name. Having 10 grand and a trans that only lasted 50k miles was out of the question. If this was my first rebuild I would of went HD4R100 for my uses and warranty. Best price I could get was, 3600 something for the trans and 1190 to install it. I'm getting to old to do this myself anymore I'm almost 70 years young. My crewcab 4x4 I bought new and still has AB injectors in it. John put the DP tuner in it and I've never had a problem with that. Never raced, power baked or anything that would of wore this trans down. His new trans, with his new vendor shows Billet planetary and forward drum along with many things that were not in my trans. So you have to make your own mind up, but for me, I should of learned when I was young and build motors of my own for racing, never go out side for a vendor that isn't close enough to give you good service if something goes wrong. Even if they do live up to there word. God bless guys, I know I'm not the first to have this problem with him, I got a few e-mails from people telling me there story.
It is a shame to see someone has a customer service issue like this. In my heart, I think you were dead on right with NOT taking it back to Woods. No way, no how would I have given him another cent or moment after stating June, then March with at least a $3300 charge.
You should send him a few of the pictures of your broken internals. Let him know what happened. It may not do anything, but it may provide him with an opportunity to apologize at the very least. Things break, but how the customer and parts are handled after the break happens is what matters.
This is extremely disappointing and I’m sorry you had to go through it. I honestly feel sick to my stomach for defending John and his “warranty” many times. As I said before, my trans has been great. But let’s face it, those of us who bit the bullet on a John Wood or BTS transmission did it for one reason: the guarantee that if something ever went wrong, it would be taken care of. I guess I know where I won’t be buying another transmission.
WOW, Advertise all over the world lifetime tranny then when one blows up being used normally want to charge 3300 for lifetime warranty. I know there are 2 sides to every story but can't imagine there's any excuse for this.
Either way I know where I will not be looking when my time comes.
Thank you guys, I feel I gave him a chance and was nice and polite. Sous, I did send him an e-mail with the problems and what I thought. Haven't heard from him as of yet. God bless,
Well, this is much like my own story Chet, which I told you about. There are SO many things I could say about this, but I will just say this....
1) John Woods word ain't worth the paper it's written on.
2) Apparently his transmissions are NOT the mack daddy like they used to be, if they ever really were.
I am sorry you had to go through this crap with him. I hope this current guy takes great care of you.
Chet, sorry to hear about the pain (and cost) you had to go through. Public reps for sharing since I haven't spread it around enough yet.
Good points brought up during this thread that I will apply to my future purchase as a JW has been on my wish list for years (and he's only 2 hours from me).
That sucks, Chet. I'd forward this thread in an email to him. I know im NOW set on a hd..(hopefully not anytime soon)...Chet, this new place, they in San Dimas?
Yes, he pulls the trans out in upland then takes to to San Dimas for the rebuild. He said he will be moving the whole thing to upland soon.
I sent JW an e-mail to be nice saying he didn't need to hold that date. In stead he says he build 250 trans a years for the last 34 years and I'm the only one that has been an a--. You know, I was very nice to this guy. Never said a bad word and each time he had an excuse of some sort, says they are old parts, with only 50K? I then e-mailed him back and said the invoice said the truck had 145K on it when you built it. Dose that mean you shouldn't expect to get 50K out of your trans? In that case you shouldn't of built it. To that point,I was polite and nice. But from the beginning you could see he didn't want to honor his word. I mean I took it back at 30K. Anyway, we all have to make up are own mind. Should of learned this when I was a kid.
Oh I have to say this. He also said only he can get an OEM o/d planetary. So that p o s Tywain job you got! It's an OEM Ford unit he put in so I don't know where he's coming from, or why he thinks he's the only guy in the world that can get parts. I save my e-mails!
I have to ask, has anyone else reached out to John for his story? I know there are folks here who have a pretty good rapport with him. I’m just a customer, though I can say he was always responsive to my concerns.
