I am glad he got back to you. For me personally, if I ever had an auto trans again, this would be the very reason I would go with a Ford RemanHD. What happens if your truck is absolutely needed every day? Now you are stuck waiting on him to get back into town, check his schedule, drink some coffee, etc.... I know he can't help it, but he could at least have his help doing the work since it his unit that failed and has left you in a bind. Hopefully he will make it right.

I agree with this also. Really sucks to have a trans go out that I paid so much money for and never abused period. I was under there today, I'm not pulling it. At my age I just don't feel I can do it on my back. It's pretty good size with the transfer case and all. Don't believe I have it in me anymore. We'll see what he says when he gets back, I mitt have to tow it there. Found a flat bed at SoCal RV rentals, it's a new trailer. That adds to the price also. Anyway I'll let every buddy know when it's said and done. God bless all,

Chet

As it was said in my previous position, "What happens if you get hit by the proverbial beer truck?"

Even the best guys are just "one guy" That in itself makes its own challenges

I just joined the bad tranny club yesterday. Driving home and it felt like the clutch was slipping. Wasn't quite able to make it up the hill home. Had it towed. Odometer is 183,500. No funny noises or smells prior to failure. We'll see what the estimate is when the shop opens in one hour. Manual says 13.1 hours. Best regards.

That seems like a lot of hours, but they have to make money too. The HD4R100 I've priced are between 3600 & 3900 if that's an option. I'm still haven't made my mind up which way I'm going yet. My warranty on mine doesn't sound like I want to go that way because of the hassle but we'll see. I just don't want it to break again.

Estimate is slightly less than $4K, installed. I agree that 13.1 hrs does seem high. Appears pretty straightforward in the manual. I'll bet those suckers are heavy though...

So your going with the standard rebuilt or this guy building a heavy duty trans? Not bad if it's heavy duty and good convertor.

Hmmm...sounds like you may end up with HD4R100 and then send your current transmission for warranty work...which might just hit the classifieds to help cover the cost of your new transmission?

Not saying that is your best option, but might be something to help you out of your current predicament

PS- Is the warranty transferable?

There's still a core charge. If there wasn't that would be a good option. There was to many stock transmission breaking around be at the time, family, and this was to be the last trans you will ever have to buy, right. Blows on a stock truck, with an old guy driving it? Right, great work.

I wish. I live in a small town in remote Alaska. It will be a rebuild shipped up from Seattle on a barge.

I've always been intrigued by those places, is it as glorious as it sounds?

I have strated looking into this as well. It looks like the TQ will run at least $600 for the HD tripple clutch billet cover with lower stall speed. I have ordered a book. My plan is to find a trany and build it before mine craps out on me. If you have a extra one lying around in So Cal. let me know. The price for the rebuid kits is all over the place from about $300 to over a grand. This seems like a 2K DYI project if you have a tany to work with. The guy in Ventura gave me a price of $2600 for one with a good kit, and a good TQ installed but the waranty is only one year.
