, says they are old parts, with only 50K? I then e-mailed him back and said the invoice said the truck had 145K on it when you built it. Dose that mean you shouldn't expect to get 50K out of your trans? In that case you shouldn't of built it. To that point,I was polite and nice. But from the beginning you could see he didn't want to honor his word. I mean I took it back at 30K.
Oh I have to say this. He also said only he can get an OEM o/d planetary. So that p o s Tywain job you got! It's an OEM Ford unit he put in so I don't know where he's coming from, or why he thinks he's the only guy in the world that can get parts. I save my e-mails!
Kinda funny he's calling something a POS when his didn't last 50k????
I have to ask, has anyone else reached out to John for his story? I know there are folks here who have a pretty good rapport with him. I’m just a customer, though I can say he was always responsive to my concerns.
Hmmmm....must be something with those of us that lived close enough to show up a this place....like me, and Chet, and another member on here who had a decent trans, but John never followed through with promises of dyno tuning and free service. He treated me the same way he did Chet. I went through 3 of them and then sold the truck. I would NEVER get a trans from him again. He blamed my first failure on a bad converter that "his guy" built and he had since fired. The second one he blamed on a bad converter and me overheating the trans because my cooler "wasn't sufficient". It was the biggest B&M you can buy and he never said anything before. The third time he said it just "didn't feel right" and replaced the trans, but at money out of my pocket. All 3 times I drove it back to him. The first time, I drove back from New Mexico in the middle of a road trip to Texas. I left my wife and 2 year-old daughter with the RV and hauled azz back to get it fixed. I won't have an auto again, but if I did, it would be a Ford Reman HD all the way. All. The. Way.
I was searching google for something else related to auto transmissions, and an FTE thread from 11 years ago was on the first page of results, where I found what would turn out to be a prophetic quote from Bonanza35.

Perhaps this specific relationship was already doomed before it began?
Which reminds me of another difference between a getting a reman HD4R100 from an impersonal company like Ford, versus getting a rebuilt transmission from an individual rebuilder. With the Ford reman, it doesn't matter whether or not the relationship with the dealership service advisor starts off on a good foot or a bad foot. There is always another dealer from which to obtain the same level build, or from which to obtain warranty service, regardless of whether or not the relationship with the selling dealer sours.
This is quite unlike having to get along with the individual rebuilder, dancing the dance to maintain a good rapport that survives the length of the transmission warranty.
A customer is really at the mercy of an individual rebuilder's moods and whims and whatever ethics govern their sense of responsibility. And the rebuilder is likewise taking a risk with the personality and expectations of the customer.
Eleven years ago, Bonanza35 already wondered aloud if John Woods was "going to become a customer service nightmare." Eerily prophetic for Chet.
It makes me wonder if rebuilders have the same prophetic feelings about some customers, and if this could be a reason why the same rebuilder might be more responsive to some customers, and harden themselves against others... whcih leads to a diametric variation and incongruity in the accumulated reviews of a given rebuilder?
