After owning this beast for the last 14 years its time to upgrade the stereo. I want to order new speakers but on Crutchfield's website it lists different sizes. Are all of the speaker the same size, Front, Middle and Rear?
I did the 4 doors and left the rear speakers stock for several reasons. I don't have a sub woofer and don't really have plans to install one. So, I get a bit more bass out of the factory paper cone speakers than I do from the aftermarkets, although the aftermarkets seem to have adequate bass for my older ears. I usually only have two people in the vehicle, so the far rear speakers are not a high priority. Also, the rears are a bigger pain in the butt to remove than the door speakers. You have to remove the side panels in the rear, although I believe some people have been able to access the speakers by just loosening the front of the panels and accessing the speakers that way. I honestly don't think you'd notice much difference if you replaced the back speakers. Now, if you're planning on installing a high power amp, I'd probably recommend replacing them as I don't believe the factory speakers are rated for very high wattage.
I'm satisfied with the results of my swap. They're being powered by a Pioneer AVIC X940BT (50W peak, 18W RMS), installed by the previous owner and I think it sounds pretty good. I do think the aftermarket speakers provide a crisper sound with better mid-range and highs, which is to be expected.

Also, how do you get to the back two?
